Submit the name
POST /api/v1/search with search_type adverse_media and X-API-Key authentication. Use one Idempotency-Key per logical request and reuse it on retries.
Poll the result
The API returns HTTP 202 and a search_id. Poll GET /api/v1/search/{search_id} with backoff until completed or an error state.
Keep the evidence
Read news_summary, open the cited sources and save the search_id beside your own review decision.

Illustrative company name. This request runs a paid check when used with a funded account. The cap below permits the adverse-media PAYG rate.
Use an API key with search:write to submit and search:read to retrieve. Honour Retry-After on HTTP 429. A client timeout or an unfinished search is not a clear result; recover the original request before starting a new paid check.

Findings depend on public-source availability and the subject’s identity. Local-language research can broaden coverage, but it does not guarantee an exhaustive search of every country, publication or court record.
news_summary is text for review, not a stable category taxonomy or a numeric risk score. Store your own decisions separately. Later checks can find different reporting; keep each result ID with its date.
For a portfolio, the batch API accepts CSV or XLSX files up to 100 rows and 2 MB, with one search type per file. Select adverse_media and budget for each row. Deep Research Report and crypto address checks are outside this batch workflow.
Know where the research goes.
Live research sends search queries to Exa. AI planning and reporting use model services through OpenRouter. Subject names, supplied context and retrieved evidence may therefore be processed by external providers. EU application hosting is not an assurance of EU-only processing for this workflow.
Saved name-screening records follow the account retention settings. PAYG uses your EUR balance, with a €5 minimum top-up; optional monthly packs are priced in USD.

Does an adverse media API call include sanctions screening?
No. Use Quick Check (€0.39 PAYG) for sanctions, PEP/RCA and criminal watchlists, or Full Search (€5.90) to combine list screening, AI match review and basic adverse media.
Can I choose the report language?
The request accepts a language field, such as en or pl. Report language and the languages searched are separate: research follows available sources and subject context.
Can I use an adverse media check as automatic approval?
The output supports review. Missing reporting does not prove absence of risk, and a name appearing in an article does not prove it is your subject. Review the sources and record your decision.
